This inaugural release in the coveted Icons of Campbeltown series celebrates the town's legendary mermaid sightings, expertly weaving maritime notes with a luxurious sherry finish.
Glen Scotia’s whisky is shaped by its coastal climate. Mermaid sightings were an unnervingly reoccurring theme in the 1800’s when local distilling was growing to new heights. To mark this icon, we have selected a subtly coastal, floral and delicate unpeated single malt whisky, and finished it in a rare choice of casks almost as special as mermaids.
APPEARANCE: Deep amber, polished mahogany in hue, good beading, good thick legs, indicating texture.
AROMA: A rich and mellow nose, slightly nose-drying. The top notes are maritime (salt crystals, boat varnish, edible seaweed). Beneath these is a thick, fruity note (tarte tatin, glazed French apple tart; a suggestion of Dundee Seville marmalade). Becoming tablet toffee as it develops.
TASTE: A creamy texture, with an overall lightly sweet, centre palate, taste, and a pinch of salt in mid-palate.
FINISH: Long and warming at natural strength, with a savoury aftertaste. A little water introduces a spicy note to the finish.
